A fundamental research field of the institute is the analysis of causes, effects and consequences of the aging of the population in the context of demographic change and in particular with a focus on the regional differentiation of processes and their consequences for the design of infrastructures, social and health systems, regional labor markets, standards of public services, etc. For this purpose, regionally specific development scenarios have been presented and made available to politics.
