Commission of the German Bundestag to review the history and consequences of the SED dictatorship
After the political system of the GDR collapsed and the state
unity of Germany was restored, diverse private, public and
scientific initiatives in the new federal states, as well as
institutions and facilities, began with the historical-political
reappraisal of the over 40 years of SED rule. In the course of
1991, there were increasing voices that, in addition to these
initiatives, the German Bundestag should also contribute to this
important task of Germany's internal unity, which not only
claims great historical interest, but also to a large extent
essential questions of future political formation in the united
Germany concerns.
